This exercise is about scene improvisation with another person.

Materials Needed

–   timer

–  access to costumes/ props

– 4 people ( this exercise is designed for at least four people, adjust accordingly)

– pencil or pen

– lined paper 


  1. decide how much time you want to spend on the exercise and write down how long each step will take (see instructions image below)
  2. Put together a look for yourself
    1.  use costumes or props that inspire a character
  3. pair up and go to breakout rooms ( or separate areas of the room if you are in person)
  4.  make agreements and play
    1.  decide who you are
    2.  decide your relationship
    3.  imagine the setting where your two characters are  and what you are doing
    4.  play and get into it
  5.  group one performs
    1.  recreate what you did in the breakout rooms OR
    2.   play some more with the same agreements 
  6.  group two performs
    1. (same format)

This exercise is inspired by Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles. On the show Whose Line Is It Anyway? These two comedians improvise scenes based on prompts and build off of each other’s material.
