Summary
This exercise is about embracing poetry through generating lines with less judgment.
Materials Needed
– timer
– lined paper
– pen or a pencil
Instructions
- set a timer
- pick a word or a phrase
- write that word or phrase vertically and centered on a lined piece of paper
- Add words around the letters that use the letter (this is similar to an acrostic poem, however the letter can occur anywhere in the phrase not just at the beginning)
Notes
This isn’t an exercise inspired by John Cage. His work often focuses on chance operations. His philosophy of indeterminacy was a way of embracing the Vitality of life.
